This bar was refined by the U.S. Assay Office for the specific purpose of international trade in the early 20^th century. The United States Assay Office at New York was one of the finest in the U.S. Assay Office. The U.S. Assay Office at New York has a rich history that once saw it operate as the largest gold refiner and processor on the U.S. East Coast. When it closed in 1982, it was the lone public gold refinery still operating in the United States.
