2018 5 Kilo Armenian Silver Noahs Ark Coin (BU)
The Armenian Silver Noah’s Ark Series was introduced by Geiger Edelmetalle for the Republic of Armenia in 2011. The series debuted with 1 oz silver and two fractional-ounce coins, and introduced four more weights in 2012. The largest coin in the series is the 5 Kilo coin, a rare bullion issue not common to other collections. Geiger Edelmetalle is a privately-owned German mint that typically focuses its production on silver and gold bullion bars. However, as of 2011 it has produced the Armenian Noah’s Ark Series as its largest and most visible product in the bullion coin market. The series started with three coins, but now features a total of seven options for investors.
All of the 2018 5 Kilo Armenian Silver Noah’s Ark Coins in this product listing are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins in this particular weight are available with individual wooden display boxes from Geiger Edelmetalle. The coins in the 5 Kilo weight have the lowest mintage by far in the series. The largest mintage in this weight, to date, is the 2014 coin with a total of 476 coins sold. These 2018 coins totaled just 195 in all by year’s end.
On the obverse of the 2018 5 Kilo Armenian Silver Noah’s Ark Coin is a depiction of the national coat of arms for Armenia. The Armenian national emblem features a quartered shield with a lion in passant position in the first quadrant, a double-headed eagle in the second quadrant, a roundel between two eagles in the third quadrant, and a lion in passant guardant position in the fourth quadrant. At the center of the shield is a singular shield with a depiction of Noah’s ark resting atop Mount Ararat.
The reverse side of 2018 5 Kilo Armenian Silver Noah’s Ark Coins includes the design from Eduard Kurghinyan of Noah’s ark. This beautiful depiction shows the ark floating along on the floodwaters as the sun rises over Mount Ararat in the distant background. A dove flies into the foreground holding an olive branch in its beak.
