Among the annual-release American bullion coins, the American Gold Buffalo is the only one that reflects historic designs on each side that come from the same coin originally. The American Gold Buffalo is a modern twist on the historic 1913 Buffalo Nickel from the US Mint. Designed by James Earle Fraser, it shows a stoic indigenous figure on the obverse and an American bison on the reverse.
