The idea that everyone deserves at least one spectacular piece of jewellery fit-for-royalty is an interesting one that has merit. The stark beauty of this bold wreath-like collar necklace is a felicitous reward for a great victory, much like a laurel wreath is a symbol of triumph, only more sparkling and everlasting. The Signed Graff Ceylon Sapphire Diamond Collar Necklace, made circa 1990s, is crafted in platinum set with approximately 50 carats of mixed shaped diamonds. The focal point of the piece is an oval sapphire weighing as estimated 19.80 carats. The sapphire is accompanied by report no. 17050029 dated 11 May 2017 from Gübelin stating that it is a natural corundum blue sapphire of Sri Lanka (Ceylon) origin with no indication of heat. Non-heated sapphires such as this sizable example are rare and most prized, as the majority of these precious gemstones on the market are commonly heated to modify their colour and appearance.

Graff is a British high jewellery house known for acquiring, cutting, polishing, and setting some of the rarest and most unique diamonds in the world. It was established in London in 1960 by Laurence Graff (1938- ) when he was only 22. By 1962, he had two jewellery shops in London. It is noted that Graff has handled many important diamonds, more than any other diamantaire of our time.

Although the sapphire is the focal point of this radiant collar necklace, the diamonds really drive the design. They also provide a spectacular light show and deepen the colour saturation of the glorious “cornflower blue” sapphire by contrast. The wreath-like halo of marquise and pear shape diamonds is spectacular, reminiscent of triumphal interlocking branches and leaves of a laurel wreath. Six smaller leaf-like clusters of round, marquise, and pear shape diamonds dance between the sleek double rows of round brilliant-cut diamonds. The entire piece flows boldly around the neck, accenting the face in a divine radiance.

Measures approx. 15.5″ in length (40 cm). Oval Ceylon non-heated sapphire weight approx. 19.80 carats, accompanied with Gübelin Lab Certificate. Diamond weight approx. 50 carats total. Overall weight approx. 63.59 grammes, made in platinum. Signed Graff, with a serial number; circa 1990s.
